Bainbridge Parish Council – Clerks Report
For Period 5th January to 22nd February 17
Village Green Donation boxes
Tim prudden reported the damage to and theft from the collection boxes in Bainbridge to Nathan at NYP on 21st January 2017. The crime numbers he was given are 218 and 223.
He subsequently had messages from a female CPSO at Leyburn who said she had come along to investigate but had found nothing..
Street Lights
There have been three problems recently, one in Cuebeck and two in Bainbridge. I understand that they have all be fixed in a very expedient manor.
Big Dig – Bainbridge
YDNPA – Rebecca Cadbury-Simmons
Rebecca is the Community Heritage Officer at the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. One of the projects that she would like to undertake in the coming year is a ‘Big Dig’ (also known as a test-pitting project) in Bainbridge during summer 2017.
The Swaledale and Arkengarthdale Archaeology Group (SWAAG) have recently completed a similar project, which proved to be very popular and successful, you can find more information about this here https://swaag.org/HLF/swaledale_big_dig2.php
As this would be a community project, it would ideally involve the Young Archaeologist’s Club, the local primary schools, and the Young Rangers, as well as the local residents of Bainbridge. I am hoping to get local residents involved, either with the digging, or by allowing us to put a 1mx1m test pit in their garden (with the promise to put it all back at the end of the project!), or both. The Young Archaeologists Club are interested in being involved, this will be an excellent learning opportunity for them. Information has been sent to the head teacher of Bainbridge, Askrigg and West Burton Primary Schools .
Bainbridge is an excellent candidate for a test pitting project, as the Roman Fort that lies next to the village has been excavated, but little else has. There is the potential for the project to help clarify the story of the village.
Rebecca is coming along to the Parish Council meeting to give a presentation.
